Helsingin Sanomat kertoi 15.8.2010 että Pohjois-Karjalan mestarikilta on myöntänyt kanteleenrakentaja Otto Koistiselle mestarikirjan ja Kantelemestarin arvon elämäntyöhön perustuen. ”Pohjois-Karjalan mestarikilta perustelee tunnustusta sillä, että Koistisen panos on poikkeuksellisen merkittävä kanteleiden rakentajana ja kehittäjänä sekä laajemmin kantelekulttuurin edistäjänä”, Helsingin Sanomissa kirjoitetaan.
